Configuration management and software deployment
Virtualization has greatly increased the number of servers that an administrator takes care of. Service orchestration, configuration automation, and deployment process have led to the development of numerous frameworks for assisting with these tasks. Setting up a staging environment, for example, can now be accomplished in just a matter of seconds. Most frameworks share a common set of functions but some tools are better suited in some situations as compared to others. Participants learn in this track how these frameworks work, their relative advantages, and best practices for configuration management, software deployment, and virtualization as described by experts in the field. Tools and projects might include but are not limited to Puppet, Chef, Saltstack, Fabric, Ansible, Vagrant, Rex, Jenkins, Docker, and Cfengine. IaaS management may cover Open Stack, Eucalyptus, Ganeti, Cloudstack, OpenNebula, OpenQRM, VMware, and EC2.
