Take the microphone, tell who's next, watch the clock, hint the time if needed ("5 minutes left!"), guide the question and answer session and ask your own questions, thank the parting speaker, help the following speaker setting himself up: A Moderator knows "his" track, pulls it together and stays with the 50 to 200 listeners through the event day.
There are about 30 so called tracks in the free conference program of the LinuxTag: A track is a row of talks about a similar topic. So everyone can find something of his interest! The moderator stays with at least one track.
Who takes part in LinuxTag on the stage, is an active member of the community and makes events like LinuxTag possible in the first place. The LinuxTag says Thank you with a free event ticket for you and a friend, free catering, an official LinuxTag team t-shirt and a subsidised ticket for our social event, the LinuxNacht. Who chooses to be a moderator for two days, gets a free ticket for LinuxNacht.
Join in! Because, how program comittee member Marko Jung puts it: "I started as a moderator at LinuxTag eight years ago. You make the event possible and at the same time listen to the talks - what else would you want!"
Here you go: Take a look at the Moderator Job Description at the LinuxTag wiki. Get more details in the Moderator's Guide.
See you at LinuxTag!
