Licenses and software patents will also a topic of public discussion. The new revision 3.0 of the GPL is expected in 2006. And software patents, even after the general rejection by the European Parliament, still leave several issues to be resolved. Outlining the second focus of this year's LinuxTag program, Magnus continued: "We want to discuss the role of Free Software not just theoretically. We are inviting speakers and the public to talk about using it as a real-world business model."
Furthermore, web publishing is also covered in its many novel flavours: how will new media concepts like wikis, blogs and content managemant systems impact our media reception?
The twelth annual international LinuxTag, to take place May 3 - 6, 2006, in Wiesbaden, Germany (near Frankfurt airport) invites speakers to submit proposals on all of these topics, and more. Speakers interested in addressing these or other relevant topics, whether in research or in practical development, can submit abstracts for presentations in several of LinuxTag's "sub-conferences".
While the Free Lecture Program specializes in technical and social aspects of Free and Open Source Software, the Practical Linux Forum addresses applications and techniques from a user's point of view. Tutorials cover specific topics for small groups. Speakers are also invited to report on success stories in business, public administration and education.
Prospective speakers are invited to send in an abstract for one-hour talks. Deadline for a comprehensive abstract is January 15, 2006. Detailed information is available on the LinuxTag website. Accommodations can be provided by LinuxTag Association for papers submitted in time. Limited travel assistance can be applied for.
12,000 visitors made LinuxTag 2005 the most successful conference and exhibition for Linux and Free Software to date. The conferences and tutorials bring together professional users, decision makers and developers. This year's LinuxTag takes place from May 3 - 6, 2006, at the Rhein-Main-Hallen in Wiesbaden, Germany.

About LinuxTag
LinuxTag is an annual exhibition and conference event on Free Software, with a special focus on GNU/Linux systems and solutions. LinuxTag is aimed at a broad audience, including beginners and newcomers, experienced GNU/Linux fans and power users, and IT professionals from the public and private sectors. Past LinuxTag events have drawn 15,000 visitors and over 150 exhibitors. True to its committment to the Free Software development model, LinuxTag itself is organized by an open association of enthusiasts. Over eleven years, this model has ensured quality and variety, as well as an authentic expression of the spirit of Free Software. Financing by companies that earn money with Free Software supports the participation of non-commercial projects at LinuxTag. As a result, LinuxTag not only allows these project groups to present their products to the general public in a professional context, but also creates synergies by bringing together the globally distributed open source community.
