Entrance to LinuxTag

LinuxTag opens doors for
visitors seeking information about
Open Source and Free Software.

With a focus on three main sections, a conference, an exhibition and professional development, LinuxTag 2008 will be addressing visitors from IT management and procurement, IT administration and software development. Gathering strategic, economic and technical information at this venue offers users and developers from all walks of industry a forum for discussing all aspects of open standards and open source IT solutions.

The LinuxTag conference is divided into two tracks. An open programme of lectures for visitors interested in applications will dwell on technical topics, future trends and practical knowledge. The track addressing business and local authorities will focus on the strategic and business management aspects of Linux and open source software. The Linux Solution Group e.V. (www.lisog.org) and the Federal Government?s administration agency responsible for IT coordination and advice (http://www.kbst.bund.de) have been enlisted to help with organising topics. Drawing on long years of independent experience, the non-commercial sponsor LinuxTag e.V. will ensure that the contributions are to a high standard. Embedded theme conferences such as those at the Open Source Office Suite OpenOffice.org (http://de.openoffice.org/linuxtag2008/) will round off this programme of international conferences.

The LinuxTag exhibition is Europe?s professional marketing platform for open source products. Sun Microsystems is its official sponsor. Major exhibitors will include IBM, Oracle and the association LIVE Linux-Verband e. V. who are organising a joint stand. This year, international exhibitors have expressed great interest in LinuxTag. Among them are the source code analyser Coverity (USA), the network platform technology company Bivio Networks (USA), the data integration specialist Talend (France), the software developer Trolltech (Norway), the smart phone manufacturer Openmoko (Taiwan), and the software specialist Qvantel, whose development centre is in India.

The German Unix User Group e. V. (www.guug.de) and the Linux Professional Institute (www.lpice.eu) will be represented in the Professional Development section, where tutorials, revision courses and certification will be among the professional advanced training measures on offer to software architects and developers. Numerous members of projects, user groups, users and administrators who use Linux and free software will all be gathered at LinuxTag. Representing projects which have already registered their participation are distributors Debian, Fedora and Ubuntu, as well as desktop teams from GNOME, GPE and KDE.
