Co-operation with German Unix User Group and Linux Professional Institute – Early-bird discount on tutorial bookings made until 15 May – Europe’s leading event for Linux and Free Software from 24 to 27 June 2009 in Berlin

Berlin, 16 April 2009 – Europe’s largest event for Linux und free software is taking place at the end of June in Berlin and provides some outstanding advanced training and career opportunities. The tutorials, refresher courses and examinations are intended for current and future Linux and Open Source developers and administrators. The partners in this important area of LinuxTag 2009 are the German Unix User Group (GUUG) and the Linux Professional Institute (LPI), providing a guarantee that the programme being offered is a balanced one and of excellent quality.

During LinuxTag the German Unix User Group (GUUG) is offering half- whole and two-day tutorials on subjects such as security for web applications, network monitoring, identity management, web development and high availability. Prominent and acknowledged experts from German-speaking countries, who have made their names either as developers or as the authors of technical publications, will be speaking at these events.

Among the subjects to be dealt with under the general heading of security is the use of Modsecurity, an open source firewall for web applications. Other topics to be covered will include network monitoring with open source tools such as Nagios, and some of the less well known functions of Linux in networks. Participants will not only be able to acquaint themselves with the theory but can also perform practical exercises on their laptops.

In the field of identity management there will be tutorials dealing with the cryptographic authentification service Kerberos and the hierarchical index service LDAP. A number of tutorials will focus on the subject of high availability. For example, a virtual system cluster will be set up on the basis of Xen and OpenAIS/Pacemaker. There will be a two-day tutorial devoted to setting up one’s own Linux-based, high availability firewall. This is intended for experienced systems administrators who are familiar with the operating and security aspects of small and large networks.

The tutorials are being held on 25, 26 and 27 June, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. each day. The participation fee is 550 EUR (for one day) or 950 EUR (two days) and includes documentation and catering during the intervals. For reservations made up to 15 May there will be a discount of fifteen per cent on the regular fee. All the details about the tutorials and registration can be found on the internet at www.linuxtag.org/2009/de/program/tutorien

About LinuxTag e.V.

According to Section 1 of its statutes, the purpose of the association is to promote greater awareness of Linux and open source applications among the public and society as a whole. By continuously developing the format over a period of 13 years the organisers have acquired considerable expertise and a high degree of credibility with visitors, speakers and exhibitors. The association is based in Kaiserslautern and has offices at the Linuxhotel in Essen.
