IT Profits, LinuxTag and Projekt Zukunft have designed the Career Lounge as a joint platform to bring IT specialists in the Berlin region together with employers in the IT professions, and is aimed at helping to alleviate the employment problems in the field. The IT industry association SIBB estimates a shortage of up to 4,000 technical and commercial employees in the IT industry in the Berlin-Brandenburg region in 2007.
Online Job Exchange and Personal Meetings
The core of the Career Lounge is an online job exchange presented in cooperation with TU Berlin. This allows companies to register their vacancies in advance and to post a virtual introduction to potential emplyoees. During the LinuxTag and IT Profits fairs, interested applicants can meet their future employers face to face in the Career Lounge and arrange interview appointments.
The Career Lounge will also offer a forum area during the fairs, with extensive resources for applicants, including application coaching, information on in-service study courses, and regional data. The recruiting services by IT Profits, LinuxTag and Projekt Zukunft are aimed at companies exhibiting at the two fairs, and at interested IT companies in the region. Potential employers can present themselves in several ways.
LinuxTag: IBM, Novell and Sun Microsystems are Official Sponsors
Three of the leading supporters of international open-source software projects—IBM, Novell und Sun Microsystems—are official sponsors of LinuxTag 2007. The three IT companies will present their OSS-based solutions for businesses and government agencies at the Funkturm convention center. In addition to international IT vendors, numerous OSS service providers will be on hand, including a joint presentation under the auspices of the German OSS association Linux-Verband vor.
As ever, free software projects will be well represented at LinuxTag, including all the popular distributions, such as Debian GNU/Linux, Fedora Core, openSUSE and Ubuntu Linux. The projects will conduct their own user and developer conferences during the LinuxTag convention. This year’s conference program includes some 200 lectures and workshops in up to five simultaneous tracks.
IT Profits: Concentrated IT Expertise
The two-day conference event at IT Profits on May 30 and 31 presents the latest national and international IT developments for professional users in private and public-sector organizations in Berlin and Brandenburg. Among the key topics at the IT Profits conference are open source software, virtual geography, current developments in e-business, communication over broadband networks, and mobile applications.
The user-oriented IT Profits exhibition taking place at the same time gathers presentations from IT companies in the Berlin–Brandenburg region under the three main themes of Public Services, Communication and Electronic Business. Numerous IT service providers will present their offerings in areas such as geoinformation, IT security, Voice-over-IP and Web 2.0. The organizers expect a total of about 10,000 visitors at the two fairs.
Best Practice Award and Berlin LinuxNacht
Highlights of the IT trade fairs at the Funkturm convention center will include the presentation ceremony of the Berlin–Brandenburg Best Practice Award on the evening of the opening day (Wednesday, May 30, 2007). Under the patronage of the Berlin–Brandenburg regional IT development association We make IT, three outstanding examples of regional IT solutions in the fields of e-government, geoinformation, mobile communication, and IT security will be honored.
On the second evening of the fair (Thursday, May 31), the international Linux and open source community will celebrate the first LinuxNacht in Berlin. This year the traditional LinuxTag social event for exhibitors, visitors and the community will mark the arrival in Berlin of Europe’s leading Linux and OSS event, and will take place in a Berlin club.
