Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the leading provider of cloud services. Amazon Linux is the operating system that forms on one hand the basis for the central services that power AWS. On the other hand, it is a perfect ingredient for your own cloud service. This presentation will provide a short overview of the history of Amazon Linux and will explain how you can use it to your advantage. It will also talk about the new features that were introduces with the most recent version in April. The presentation is intended for everybody that runs their own cloud services or those who are just curious to take a peek behind the scenes of AWS.

Chris Schlaeger is the Managing Director of the Amazon Development Center Germany GmbH. He is responsible for the development of Amazon Linux and the Amazon Web Services EC2 instance types. Before joining Amazon, he managed the AMD Operating System Research Center and was VP of Linux Engineering at SUSE/Novell.
